Founder, Storyteller, and Steward of The People’s Practice™
Ghylian Bell is a mother, grandmother, integrative wellness educator, artist, activist, and creative entrepreneur. Born in New Jersey and deeply inspired by the cultural legacy of New York City, she spent years walking the runways and ateliers of Seventh Avenue as a fashion muse for iconic design houses. Even then, the intentionality of her healing presence was unmistakable—her path was always rooted in transformation, beauty, and embodied truth.
For over 25 years, Ghylian has served as a guide for individuals and communities on the journey of remembering who they are. Drawing from the sacred traditions of the Lumbee people of North Carolina and the ancestral lineage of the Akan people of Ghana, she bridges land, lineage, and liberatory healing practices. Certified in yoga, nutrition, and integrative wellness therapies, she weaves energy healing, sound meditation, breathwork, and mindfulness education into holistic experiences that awaken and restore.
Her work is both a reawakening and a reclamation—an invitation to return to the body, to ancestral memory, and to the Earth. Through her signature methodology, The People’s Practice™, and as Founder of The Urban Yoga Foundation, Ghylian leads school-based programs, community healing circles, and immersive retreats that center rhythm, ritual, and restoration.
Ghylian’s legacy also spans elite circles. Her wellness work has touched the lives of celebrities and changemakers including Cicely Tyson, James Earl Jones, James Mtume, Tasha and Sidra Smith, Jocelyn Brown, Alana Mayo, and Barry Mayo. Whether in hospitals, museums, classrooms, or cultural institutions, Ghylian creates sacred space for healing—bringing ancient wisdom into the present with grace, power, and purpose
As a high-functioning single mother, Ghylian found herself constantly giving to others. But in the quiet moments moving through breath with her daughter, reclaiming rituals passed down by elders she began to remember who she was. That remembering became a teaching. That teaching became a movement. And that movement became Urban Yoga Foundation.
Ghylian now leads national trainings, speaks on cultural wellness and education equity, and continues to guide Urban Yoga Foundation as a vessel for legacy.
